Daily Reflection: 5 May 2024

I’m one of the most black and white people you’ll ever meet. If something is wrong, it’s wrong. If it’s right, it’s right and, yes, we can know the difference. If things aren’t just, it deeply upsets me.

Something that is hard for black and white people is that we can tend to be rigid and cynical. Worst of all, we can nitpick to death until we drive people insane. All in an effort to set things right.

Now, I AM NOT saying we should be “whatever, man” about things. We should always stand for what is true, good, and beautiful.

But, we must, also, be people of joy.

If all you are is the Christian police, nobody will be drawn to you or the Gospel.

If you cast shade on every new convert and holler about how they aren’t doing all the things perfect, you will push them away.

If you set up shop on social media to point out EVERY SINGLE flaw within the Church, who are you gonna draw? Only people like yourself, but certainly not outsiders maybe wondering about the Faith.

Does this mean we need to be sugary sweet and acquiesce to the culture? No, certainly not.

But, God does want us to have joy and have it abundantly. So smile, Catholic Pilgrims. Laugh. Enjoy the good things of this life. Be an authentic magnet that draws people to Christ and all the goodness of our Catholic Faith.

Have a blessed Sixth Sunday of Easter.
