Daily Reflection: 30 April 2024

Someone commented the other day that living the Christian life was a bit of a drudgery.

They said that because we are supposed to be meek, and humble, and a doormat and because of following all the rules we never really get to do anything amazing.

(We are not required to be a doormat, btw)

They asked, โ€œWhy did God put us here if not to experience LIFE???โ€

What was implied here is that having to hold back from fully giving into sin meant we arenโ€™t really living. If we could just enjoy sex in our way, eat as much as we want and whatever we want, if being lazy wasnโ€™t seen as so bad, then possibly life would be better.

The writer lamented that having to be in constant opposition with the world was, in essence, killing the vibe of life.

The part of the comment that just floored me was saying that following all the rules meant we never really get to do anything amazing.

In my head, I was like, โ€œThe Saints, anyone? Hello?โ€

Sadly, the whole point of Christianity was being utterly missed. We follow Godโ€™s laws and โ€œrulesโ€ because sin separates us from Him. For love of Him Who created us, we should want to be as close as possible in order to truly recognize our potential and rise to the highest levels of humanity as we canโ€”to become more Christ-like.

Thatโ€™s what the Saints did and do and because of that, they accomplish amazing things because of their closeness with God.

The Christian life, Catholic Pilgrims, is not one of ease precisely because to do anything amazing, we must not live for ourselves, but for love of God and others.

Live the Faith boldly and travel well this Tuesday.
