Daily Reflection: 19 April 2024

Oh Paul, how I relate to your story and conversion.

Today, in our readings, we get the famous Damascus story. As you know, Saul was running around full of “murderous threats” towards Christians and he was full of pride. He thought he knew better, he was on the attack, and he was going to set things straight.

Then, he’s on the road, and, basically, God was done with this nonsense. A light flashed around Saul and he fell to the ground and Jesus asks him why he’s persecuting Him.

What stuck out to me today was the next line from Christ.

“Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do.”

Once you’ve been brought low and your pride has been humbled, that is the time when God can really enter in to your soul and bring about the transformation in you that is needed to become who God created you to be.

Saul was so prideful, using his power to do awful things. Then, on his knees, God was like, “You are not as powerful as you think. Now get up…”

Paul went on to be one of the most effective evangelizers the world has every know.

Once, I was brought low and was left humbled and it was in that point that God said, “Alright, now get up and go read and truly learn about my Church.” And I did.

God can do amazing things within us and through us if we remember, Catholic Pilgrims, to surrender to Him.

Live the Faith boldly and travel well.
