Daily Reflection: 2 April 2024

I’m the bed-maker in our marriage. For 22 years, I’ve made our bed each morning.

The other day, I jokingly said to my husband, “If I went on a business trip, like you always do, the poor bed wouldn’t get made here at home.”

He said, “Yes, it would. Believe it or not, I make the bed when I travel.”

This shocked me and I questioned back, “You do? Why?”

“Well, I do it for you. When I travel, you’re still with me, so I do the things I know you like and would do. I probably don’t make it to your standards, though,” he laughed.

I must admit, this melted my heart and I gave my hubby a big hug. I never knew he honored me in this way when he travels. To know that he carries me around in his heart and mind when we aren’t physically present to each other is a testament to true love.

This is how we are to be with God. Though we can’t always see Him or feel His presence, we should desire to honor and adore Him with our actions, even when no one is looking.

This is how we “pray without ceasing,” as St. Paul tells us to do. We invite God into our everyday activities and sanctify them by doing them well for love of Him. It is a way to keep our relationship with God ever on our mind.

Love always goes the extra mile, Catholic Pilgrims, and that extra mile enriches our relationships with God, our spouse, our children, and others.

Live the Faith boldly and travel well this Tuesday.
