Daily Reflection: 12 March 2024

My priest told a great story yesterday at Mass.

He said, “I don’t remember where I read this, but its message is important. There was a Bishop from Europe meeting with a Bishop in Africa. They were having breakfast together.

The European Bishop commented on how alive the Church was in Africa, specifically Nigeria.

The African Bishop asked, “Why do you think God is in Africa?”

To which the European Bishop replied, “Well, God is everywhere.”

“Yes, yes, but get my point. Why is God here?”

After thinking for a bit, the European Bishop said, “I don’t know.”

“It’s because He is wanted.”

It is true that metaphysically God is everywhere, but where He is wanted, you see a real difference.

In the western world, we got too big for our breeches. This is often what happens when you get so advanced that you believe you are god-like and it, also, happens when you are so drunk on pleasures and comfort that you forget your dependence on God.

I’ve lived a life where I didn’t want God, except maybe as a loose cover for being a “good” person. My life was shallow, redundant, and lacked any kind of luster.

It was only when I said, “I cannot continue to live without the Eucharist” that everything changed.

I wanted and needed Him and that has made all the difference, Catholic Pilgrims.

Live the Faith boldly and travel well this Tuesday.
