Daily Reflection: 10 March 2024

Recently, when I was in Charleston, my family went on a sailing trip for two hours.

The sun was out, the sky was Robin-egg blue, the clouds were fluffy cotton balls, the sun was warm, but the wind was cool, and the dolphins were playing in the water.

It’s in those moments, those perfect moments of feeling so alive, that I often wonder how anyone could choose evil. How on a perfectly sunny day can anyone harbor hate, want to sin, or engage in anything bad?

It’s a bit of a childish thought, but I wonder at it because light seems so invigorating and life-giving.

What I know is this: If you do not have Christ in your life, no amount of material earthly light will make a difference. You have to have the supernatural light of Christ shining in your soul, otherwise, even beautiful, sunny days will be tinged with darkness. Sadly, that darkness will become something people prefer because it cloaks the reality of their lives.

“…but people preferred darkness to light…” John 3:19

The greatest light is Christ, Catholic Pilgrims, and He brings everything to life—most importantly our souls.

Have a blessed Fourth Sunday of Lent.
