Daily Reflection: 8 February 2024

My first boyfriend I ever had, the one who I was desperate to have love me, did nothing to make me a better person. Not one thing.

The next boyfriend was even worse. He absolutely tanked my moral compass and set me up for a world of pain.

The third was…eh…okay. While he wasn’t horrible, he didn’t make me grow. He didn’t challenge me, he didn’t inspire me, he never called me to betterment. And this one, I was engaged to for 18 months before meeting my would-be husband.

We are taught in our society to believe that only physical attraction and compatibility in bed are the most important factors in picking a spouse.

While being physically attracted is important, it is not the most important thing.

Solomon in our reading today from the first Book of Kings has all these wives and they were most likely picked because of physical beauty—not goodness, compatibility, or intellect.

And they sink Solomon. Where once he was great, blessed with wisdom from God, he becomes an idol worshipper and “turned his heart away from the Lord.”

Solomon only picked with his eyes and it didn’t go well for him.

By God’s great grace, He led me to a man that always challenges me to be better; to become the Amy that God had in mind when He created my soul. My husband calls me to a higher standard.

Call your own spouses to holiness, Catholic Pilgrims, and let your spouse call you. If you aren’t married yet, but want to be, look for a spouse that wants to lead you to Heaven. That is the most important thing.

Life the Faith boldly and travel well this Thursday.
