Daily Reflection: 17 January 2024

So, yesterday, I talked about the founding of St. Augustine and how it got its name back in 1565.

When Father Lopez said the first Mass here, he claimed it in the Nombre de Dios, in the Name of God.

Here on the land of Mission Nombre de Dios, there is a Shrine to Nuestra Seรฑora de La Leche. National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios

Look at this tiny chapel. Isnโ€™t it beautiful? When you go inside you feel nothing but a calm and simple peace.

This chapel is dedicated to honoring Maryโ€™s motherhood and it is a place that many, many people come to ask for prayers from Mary with regards to becoming a mother.

When we were going through the museum on site, we met Shelia, perhaps the best museum guide on earth. Normally, the tiny museums connected to these types of places are small and something you just zoom through to get to the โ€œgood stuff.โ€ However, Shelia made it come alive. Her passion was infectious and you can tell she truly loves what she does. All the staffโ€”Shelia, Helga, and Brianโ€”that we met there are amazing.

Shelia told us that she has worked there for nine years and in those nine years, sheโ€™s had 28 women return to introduce her to their baby that was prayed for in this tiny chapel.

“And those are only the ones that have come back!” she said with a smile.

If ever visiting St. Augustine, Catholic Pilgrims, be sure to carve out some time to visit Mission Nombre de Dios and offer up some prayers in this special chapel.

And go to the museum. Hopefully, Shelia will be there. She’s got a light, that one.

Live the Faith boldly and travel well this Wednesday.
