Daily Reflection: 26 November 2023

We like Christ as Savior, as it shows His deep love for us.

We like Christ as our friend, because a good friend, in our mind, backs us up in all we want to do. This is probably the most popular view of Christ because our modern world likes to just make Christ a buddy, a pal who โ€œhangs out with sinners.โ€

We like seeing Christ as our brother, because that puts Him kind of on equal footing with us.

Christ as King, though? Eh. Weโ€™d rather avoid that part of Christ because kingship means authority and we want to be our own authority figure. โ€œAinโ€™t nobody gonna tell me what to do.โ€

In a world where we pridefully scream all the day long about โ€œmy choice, my rights, my body, my truth,โ€ we have no desire to see Christ as King in our lives. Weโ€™d rather He just be a cool pal that rolls with whatever we have in mind.

This view is ignorance of Scripture and a childish view of Christ.

Christ is King and He does have authority over us whether we want to acknowledge that or not. His Kingdom has moral boundaries and responsibilities attached to itโ€”all things that make us better people and help us to grow into Saints.

We see here in todayโ€™s reading from Matthew 25:31-46, that Our King expects us to propagate His Kingdom here on Earth and, as we see in the readings, we simply canโ€™t do that living for ourselves.

Humble submission is what is required of us, Catholic Pilgrims, and while that seems icky to a prideful heart, it is the proper response to the King of Heaven and Earth.

The best part is, is that He is the only authority in our lives that will never lead us astray, only to eternal glory.

Have a blessed Feast of Christ the King Sunday!
