Daily Reflection: 3 November 2023

I woke up this morning and saw many of the headlines from the news and just wanted to crawl back in bed because literally everything seems like a dumpster fire.

I think we all feel a bit tense and weary as we hold our breath waiting for the next bad thing, and the next bad thing, and the next bad thing.

So, here are a few random musings for this Friday.

1. Have you ever thought about how weird it is that we sleep? I mean, we have to โ€œpower downโ€ like a machine to reboot.

2. Iโ€™m pretty sure that two days after Halloween, the candy corn company has a recycle drop-off program, where people bring their uneaten candy corn. This ensures that there will be some available for next year for the five people who eat it. Any candy that is more popular as an art craft item is probably not fit for consumption.

3. No, it is not time for Christmas. Thatโ€™s next month. Relax. It will come. This is the month where we celebrate the feast of the great bird carcass. One holiday at a time, okay.

4. My son has collected up $66.00 in change from money he finds lying on the ground. He literally finds money everywhere. Yesterday, he found a dirty old quarter out in the woods while he was on hike with his science club. It was the same color as the dirt so I have no idea how he spotted it. His dream is to take a metal detector into a landfill to find all the lost change. ๐Ÿ™„

5. My dad and I were talking about the song โ€œAutumn Leaves,โ€ this week by Nate King Cole. Did you know he was originally from Montgomery? I went to see his childhood home. Anyway, if you want to hear, as my dad said, a hauntingly beautiful song, give it a listen. The link is in the comments.

Have a blessed weekend, Catholic Pilgrims.
