Daily Reflection: 10 September 2023

Our idea of love in the modern world is 1 cup of niceness and 10 cups of “do-whatever-you-want-and-I’ll-hold-your-hand-as-you-slip-into-self-destruction.”

Too many demand that nobody ever tell them that what they are doing is wrong and too many go along with this.

Consequently, we have very spiritually, emotionally, and physically unhealthy people simply existing because everyone around them has not only told them that their sin is fine, but encouraged them in it, all in an effort to be “affirming” and “loving.”

The Prophet Ezekiel tells us in the most clearest of terms that if you do not try to dissuade a person from their sins, you bring death not only on them, but yourself.

If “you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death.” Ezekiel 33:8

St. Paul tells us in Romans that “love does no evil to a neighbor.”

It is evil to encourage people in sinful practices. It is evil to never speak up if we see someone hurting themselves through sin. We are to guide people to Heaven and we simply can’t do that if we affirm sin in their lives just so we seem like the nice guy.

Love speaks hard truths sometimes, Catholic Pilgrims. It must in order to save us from destructive ways. Sometimes the most charitable thing to do is remind people of their dignity, that they were made for more, and that there is a better way.

Live the Faith boldly and travel well this Sunday.
