Daily Reflection: 15 August 2023

Today is the day, when I am again compelled to share my favorite painting of Mary as she is assumed into Heaven.

It is found in The Cathedral of San Pedro de Los Milagros in Colombia and the artist is Juan de Jesus Munera Ochoa.

I have stared at this painting many, many times. I love the coloring, the strength of the angels, the light around Our Lady, and the peacefulness of her face.

It is a shame to me that so many give Mary so little attention. Sadly, though, I used to be one of them. Never in all of Christโ€™s teachings did He ever say, โ€œThe spiritual life is just about you and me. Nobody else can be honored, loved, or respected.โ€

As we are to honor our own mothers, it follows that we should honor the woman who bore Our Savior.

I often imagine Mary in Heaven, beautiful in radiant light, holding Jesusโ€™ hand. It is such a comfort to know that she is there with Him interceding on our behalf.

Today, is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. No earthly grave is marked for her, because she is not here. It is most fitting that at the end of her earthly life, she was brought, body and soul, to Heaven. That is exactly what a perfect Son, Who is God, would do for His mother.

Get thee to church today, Catholic Pilgrims. Thank God for gift of Our Lady.
