Daily Reflection: 21 July 2023

A funny story for this Friday, Catholic Pilgrims.

Several months ago, I was at Mass on a Friday at Old St. Mary’s in Alexandria, Virginia—the oldest Catholic Church in Virginia.

We all stood up when the priest said, “Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours…”

At this moment the priest had his arms up and open and I noticed on his left hand, that right in the middle of his palm, there was a dark circle.

As we continued on, the dark circle remained and I started getting excited. I thought to myself, “Is that dark circle a wound???? Did it just show up for the Consecration?”

I looked around to see if anyone else was seeing this very clear hole in the priest’s hand. I couldn’t see if his right hand had a similar dark circle, as it was tilted away from me.

As I continued to stare at the priest’s hand, I got even more excited and thought, “Oh my gosh, maybe only I can see it! What if this is a miracle of the stigmata?!! This is it!!!”

My heart was beating a little faster and I leaned over to my daughter and said, “Are you seeing this? The hole in the priest’s hand???”

“Mom, I think it’s just one of those circle bandaids.”

Now, I don’t have the best eyesight, but I looked again and, yep, just a bandaid. 🙄🙄🤪🤪

For a moment there, I was nearly fully convinced I was in on a miracle. Instead, it was just my typical dramatic self letting my imagination run wild.

So…yeah. 😂

Have a blessed Friday, Catholic Pilgrims.
