Daily Reflection: 6 February 2023

One of the hardest things for us to accept, as humans, is our fragility and mortality.

Sickness is something that comes to us all in one form or another. It is a consequence of a fallen world.

It is difficult sometimes to accept that our bodies age, they wear down, and at some point along the pilgrimage of life, we will get sick or have a debilitating injury.

And the Lord knows how we beg for healing. We want healing swiftly especially if a loved one is suffering. Sickness bothers us for many reasons but one of the reasons is because we donโ€™t have control. It leaves us feeling helpless. We fear it will render our life useless and worthless.

Those of us that are believers, pray. We can ask others to lift us in prayer. We have a whole host of Saints in Heaven that we can ask for prayers.

We donโ€™t have to be alone in our suffering. We have a God who understands.

Sometimes, we heal naturally. Sometimes, the Lord answers our prayers for healing quickly. Sometimes, He answers it more slowly. Sometimes, it seems He isnโ€™t listening and we get mad and frustrated and demand healing for continued belief. Or we promise true fidelity for healing.

Christ heals many sick people in the Bible. He performed many miracles in order to help the people understand who He was/is; He still performs miracles today.

Without God, sickness and suffering are just pointless painโ€”dumb suffering. For God, though, He will and can create good out of the bad, but we must trust Him. He is perhaps purging us, strengthening us, growing faith in others by our response to our suffering, and He is always giving us the opportunity to unite our suffering to Christโ€™s suffering on the Cross for the good of others.

If you are sick or a loved one is, Catholic Pilgrims, I will pray especially for strength and healing for you today.

Have a blessed Monday.
