Our Letters To President Biden

Here is the promised blog about how to write our letters to President Biden. First, some context:

A while back, a fellow Catholic Pilgrim, private messaged me. She asked what we can do, as Catholics, to stop the bled out from many of Biden’s policies. “Should we write the bishop, the pope? Do we need to do old fashioned letters?” I told her that I would take it to prayer and see what happened.

As soon as I took it to prayer, Matthew 18:15-17 crept into my head. “If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over…”

Biden is a baptized Catholic that has strayed from being obedient to Christ and His Church. Because of his unabashed support of abortion and his policies to support it, his denial of Biblical teachings on marriage, and his denial of the truth of biological gender, there is danger that his soul is deep in mortal sin and he causes great scandal. It is our duty, as Catholics, to help him…not punish him. I stress the “not punish” him part. If any part of you wants to “give a piece of your mind” to Biden, please walk away from this blog post and rethink things.

Anytime we see a soul lost to mortal sin, we should be moved, as Christ is moved, to return that soul to grace and see that person become who God created them to be. While I know that Biden is not liked by many, we are called, Catholic Pilgrims, to admonish the sinner in order to help him. So, here is my plan, but it will take you and many Catholics for it to be effective. The first person we need to talk to is Biden. Scripture says to take it to him first. So, on Ash Wednesday, Catholics around America should mail a letter to Biden at the White House and email one, too.

DON’T

–Mention Trump. This will in no way be helpful to the point of the letter.

–Mention whether you think he is lawfully president or not. It’s not pertinent and it distracts from the messsage.

–Be prideful. If you are looking to take shots, step away for a bit and recognize that this isn’t becoming of us as Catholics. Pray for the grace to have a charitable heart and then come back to it.

DO

–come from a place of charity and sincere concern.

–write a letter that you would want to receive if someone was calling you out for your sins. Keep it short and simple. One page is sufficient.

–encourage others to participate. We need as many Catholics participating as possible to make this effective, so please share, share, share.

–pray for the success of this endeavor before you write and before you send it off.

Now, it is important that we be realistic. These letters may never reach his eyes, but it is our duty to try. If it is going to bear fruit, God will bless it. But, we must be doing this with good hearts, not ones full of bitterness, revenge or spite.

However, I know that things done on a big-scale level, oftentimes, are not where the most change takes place. It is at the local level that real change happens. I would highly, highly encourage that, in addition, to writing to Biden, you also donate to a local organization that helps pregnant women or others in need. The letter writing is a spiritual work of mercy and donating is a corporeal work of mercy.

So….

If you participate, send your letter by email AND by snail mail. More avenues make it more impactful and likely to be seen.

Below is an example letter. I am giving it as an example of what the tone and general message should be. You can follow my format if you wish, but be sure to use your own words. That makes it more genuine.

EXAMPLE

Dear President Biden,

I can only imagine the responsibilities that come with being President of the United States. To know that millions of Americans are looking to you to lead us has to be a heavy burden. I can, also, imagine that life in the presidency is one under constant scrutiny. There’s no way to make all people happy.

One thing I know is that with great power comes great responsibility. I could only hope that if I were ever in such a position that I could stay strong to the principles and virtues I hold dear. It is my hope and prayer for you, that the presidency grows you into the man God created you to be. I hope that you have a good and fruitful presidency that is full of integrity and a positive display of the virtues, we as Catholics, hold dear–prudence, wisdom, charity, etc. I pray that such awesome power humbles you and helps you to realize that all authority comes from God.

Mr. President, as a fellow Catholic, it hurts me to see you embrace positions that are contrary to the faith that we share. Our most important identity is that of child of God and in all things it is our duty to follow God’s ways and His teachings. There are many things in our culture today that are contrary to God’s Laws which, also, makes them contrary to the Natural Law. Abortion is a grave evil, as we know that every soul is created by God and it is not our right to take innocent life. Scripture’s teaching on marriage is clear and fitting to the complementary nature of the two sexes. And biology and anatomy clearly confirm the reality of only two sexes and that one’s sex at birth defines what they are–either male or female.

I know that there is much pressure to conform to the doctrines of the Democratic Party. However, our wills should only ever conform to God’s Will and what we are taught by the Natural Law and revelation through God’s Word in Scripture.

As a Catholic, it is your duty, as it is mine, to be obedient to Christ and His Church over every other person or institution. I implore you to reconsider your stance on the above-mentioned issues. I know it is not easy to receive criticism and often, at least for me, our first inclination is to dismiss it. I assure you, I don’t write from a place of hatred, bitterness, or revenge. I write as one Catholic to another hoping to draw you away from those beliefs and policies that hurt your soul and the souls of those under your leadership.

I will continue to keep you in my prayers.

A fellow American,

Amy Thomas
