Why I Love Being Catholic: Kedon from Kinetic Catholic

I'm so excited to bring you April's male voice. Kedon is the youngest person I've interviewed. I was first introduced to Kedon when I opened my Seton Homeschooling Magazine a few months back. His family was the featured family for the month and I discovered that Kedon runs a Youtube channel where he speaks about the faith. I immediately went to look him up and was super impressed with him. I knew that he had to be one of my male interviewees. For his young age, he is on the path to being a great apologist. He is articulate, passionate, and gracious. Kedon lives in Oklahoma City with his parents, twin brother and younger brother. He, also, has an older sister and a niece. So, he's a budding apologist and an uncle! Kedon is a great kid and as adults we can learn a lot from him--especially his desire to know and understand his faith.

1. Has your immediate family always been Catholic or did they convert? If they converted, where did they convert from?

My dad converted to Catholicism about four or five years ago. He was technically Presbyterian, but he had not really gone to any church for a long time. The rest of my family has always been Catholic.

2. Who is one of your favorite saints and why?

Saint Tarcisius is one of my favorite saints. He was a 12-year old boy who lost his life defending the Eucharist. He is a great martyr. He is also the patron saint of altar boys.

(Kedon is an altar boy, so what a great saint to look up to!)

3. Where is the best Catholic place you have visited? Where do you hope to visit?

The best Catholic place I have visited is Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. But this coming fall I am going to Rome, and then two months after that I am going to the Holy Land!

4. What's a myth or misconception about the Catholic Church that you hear often? What's the truth of it?

There are so many! But I think the one I hear the most is that we worship Mary. We do not worship Mary, but we do honor her. She is the Mother of God! We ask her to pray for us. I compare that to asking a friend to pray for us. It’s really no different.

5. You're a young person and how parents present the faith affects how you experience it. What are your parents doing well to help you grow in your faith?

I am home schooled. We use a Catholic curriculum called Seton Home Study. It is very good, and very Catholic. They keep the faith active in our lives by taking us to Mass every week. We go to Stations of the Cross when we can. We try to go to Confession monthly. My parents let me serve the altar as often as possible. They do a good job of teaching me the ‘why’ behind what we believe. When I understand why we do what we do, it is all so logical, and I want to practice the faith!

6. Why do you love being Catholic?

I love being Catholic because it is the One True Faith established by Jesus Christ! It doesn’t get much better than that!
